New Thread to Watch "Search inequity for Supplies & Vintage?"

With the new search, some feel that there are inequities now for Vintage and Supply sellers.

Please take a moment to read this thread and voice your concerns over this issue.

I read this and I agree. We pay the same as the "handmade`s" and I feel descriptions should be added to the vintage drop down link. What can it hurt?

Exactly, it's not going to hurt anyone--but us. Things that cause vintage/supplies to have exposure/effort are being arbitrarily instituted, here and there with no logical reasoning. I honestly don't think as someone suggested that they might have 'storage problems'--there are a LOT of unused (or rarely used) functions, most with animation and bells/whistles that barely ever are used, nor do they add any value to revenue ("site toys") that could be eliminated and make the site easier to use for everyone.

Supplies have it a little better because the details of the item can for the most part, be fit into a title (even then, it's not an excuse for excluding descriptions). But for vintage, the item's history is THE most important information you can give a potential buyer, and provenance will almost 100% of the time, close a sale for a buyer that's on the fence. We're not only selling objects, we're selling knowledge and history as well, and you can't fit that into a title. That's why not having descriptions in search is a huge blow for vintage.
This, plus things like clothing sizes, material, designer etc etc are vital to selling vintage things, especially when we have so many other people claiming something is vintage, when it's not. Our details show we have the real thing and can prove it.
Maybe they don't understand this, but I have a hard time thinking this is true because they've had more than enough feedback from all of us-and-even from non-vintage sellers that want us here, not to say they 'didn't realize' it's a problem.

I made my thoughts known in the Etsy forum thread...I can't imagine that Etsy admin will ignore this very valuable feedback? I imagine they will take action when they see their own daily revenues falling for hurt sales in the Vintage & Supply categories.

I can see the value in fine tuning search - but the current format is simply flawed. Many community members have made great suggestions on how to improve it.

And as an artist/handmade seller - as well as Vintage/Supply - I feel totally in the right making my feedback public. Growing pains aside, Etsy must take a clear look at their strategy and administration methods if they are to remain a fair and viable marketplace.

I wonder if it would be valuable for a group of vintage sellers--the street team, or the members of this site--to approach admin and ask for a conversation about this. There's a lot of anger and people talking about views dropping to 10% of what they were. Maybe we need to get our messages together and talk to them more or less formally, rather than just hoping they'll pop into one of the threads?

Hi everyone!

I've been in touch with Etsy and have heard back from them. I have some great news, and some things your going to be surprised about all good and all pertaining to vintage.

Please bear with me, I'm waiting on exact numbers, details. I'm sorry I can't go into further details just yet.

It's best to just relax, and give the system some time.... although venting on the forums in a polite way is great and they are reading!

I'm very happy about this Gabreial because it looked like they were expecting us to just throw money (and our businesses)into the toilet, and for what? Because we're all one big family? Grr...

Glad to hear this because I was working right now on an epic-length mail to them, and the only thing that's keeping me from sending yet it is I'm waiting not to be so angry before writing the final draft :-(

That's great to hear! Would it be out of line to say something in the forums about this (just that changes are being worked on)? There are some pretty depressed people there.
