What type of Vintage Home Decor do you like?

I'm new to Etsy, ning, blogs, well....just about everything related to running a business online :o). I've bought vintage for years.....for a variety of reasons. I know what home decor styles I like (I'm a cottage chic style girl) , but I was wondering what is "Hot" for vintage home decor? What styles do you like?

I'm definitely an eclectic person! No one style, really. I'm sort of into themes and colors. Like right now I'm on a sort of Indian inspired theme so I have a lot of reds, golds and ethnic inspired patterns going on in my bedroom. But in my kitchen it's more of a blues and greens theme. My bathroom is sort of a beachy or shabby chic kind of look. I'm all over the place. lol

Ecletic..Oh yes ! No one style..both my husband and I like many different flavors..If i was alone(and glad I'm not)I'd have more of just the Atomic Eames look,I'm wild about the shapes of that era,and barkcloth. Then mix in the kids and grand kids and the flavor is lastest gaget/toy and I love that too.

Art Deco for sure! Love the lines. Also love the fussyness of victorian decor. I prefer the real items and not the reproductions. That being said, they are often expensive. Don't really know a lot about "vintage" but like some of the kitchen items from the 50's. Especially the string holders in the shape of Chef's heads or the plastic chef clocks. I have a thing for the Chefs LOL.

Interesting.....I suppose that is the great thing about vintage....there are so many options and it doesn't have to look like everyone else's. So what's "hot" is different for everyone! Hmmmm....thank you for your comments!

I collect mid-century pottery and Russel Wright dinnerware so I have to say I love mid-century modern decor. I love Russel Wright furniture and Heywood Wakefield. I'm a huge fan of Amy Butler's Midwest Modern book...

My house is such a mix of styles and eras it can only be called eclectic. For example I have a huge shabby white deco cabinet that I brought back from Paris with curved doors and etched glass mixed with my maple 70s dining room suite, new leather sofa and chinese paper screen. Vintage parisian prints and 1950s kitch black leopard, african art, asian art all in the same room. Sounds bizare but somehow it all works in my weird green house. Lynn

I heart anything vintage......every style has its own great "history" and feel to it. But that said, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE mid-century atomic stuff!! The majority of my house is MCM - right down to the gawdawful orange vinyl sofa! :) Sooner or later that vinyl WILL be replaced with some heavily woven black material; although I hate the thought of messing around with an original '50s piece.

On occasion I get the urge to start anew and decorate in a shabby chic style, or a bright, upbeat cottagey-type style (sorta like the stuff you see in Mary Engelbreit's magazine), but my credit card certainly sets me straight on that notion! Although I do have to say it's such a delight to step into my house and see all of the hard work that I've done come together in such an interesting way.....no one will ever have a living room just like mine!!!! And seeing the looks on people's faces as they see my decorating style is always a hoot!!!!

For those into MCM design, have you ever read the magazine Atomic Ranch? It's WONDERFUL!!!!!! I highly recommend it.

I would love to see pictures of your house Snook! I too love mid century modern....

I agree....I'd love to see Snooks house. I love late 40's and 50's styles and like to marry them with cottage chic style. I love Mary Engelbreit and would love to do some of the things she has in her magazine too.....but the budget doesn't allow me that at this time. I love all of the ideas shared on here. It's always fun to hear what others are doing with their homes.....

I love MCM too, but it just doesn't fit into my 100 year old lime green kitchy house :) Perhaps we'll change the color; I love it and hate it at the same time.

I just had a custom birdhouse made to look like my house on ETSY. Check it out: it's kind of folk artsy.... http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=7858942
actually looks much better than the photos and is solidly made in red cedar. Lynn
