Karen Antique? Vintage? Collectible?

The definition of what is antique, vintage or collectible varies from source to source, product to product and year to year. However, some time-tested definitions deserve consideration. I have never managed to purchase an antique, but I do have lots of vintage and collectibles! It's not just the age, but the rarity and value of the item that defines it as a genuine antique. An item that is at least 50 to 100 years old and is collected or desirable due to rarity, condition, utility, or some othe… Continue

Karen Manhattan or Park Avenue?

No, I'm not talking about NYC, lol! I'm referring to two glass patterns produced by Anchor Hocking that have some confusing similarities. Manhattan was made between 1939 and 1941 and is therefore Depression glass. One of the few depression patterns collected more often in crystal than pink, this Deco design features a pattern of concentric circles. Continue

Patti Fairy Rings in my meadow - too MUCH rain!

According to Wikipedia: "A fairy ring, also known as fairy circle, elf circle or pixie ring, is a naturally occurring ring or arc of mushrooms. The rings may grow over ten meters in diameter and become stable over time as the fungus grows and seeks food underground. They are found mainly in forested areas, but also appear in grasslands or rangelands. Fairy rings are not only detectable by sporocarps in rings or arcs, but also by a necrotic zone (death grass) or a ring of dark green grass. If th… Continue

Aunt Sissy ARG! Nine West is NOT a Vintage Brand!

I just did a search on Etsy for "Nine West" shoes and they're ALL OVER! Nine West wasn't a brand until December 31 1991 meaning even it's first shoes are NOT vintage (ie 20+ years.) I flagged a few but we'll see if anything happens or not. Continue

Tina Vintage finds

Hi there - Happy 4th of July - to all. They banned fireworks in our city and in my moms so we decided to do some in our backyard for the kids and keep it low key. I made some bbq beef ribs and twiced baked potatoes for dinner - yumm-o! SO that is the reason I am home and blogging tonight and sharing my vintage collectibles...Please let me know if you know any info on these items and maybe a price range of value...I am planning on putting them up on etsy. Aunt Sissy Upholstered Photo Background

I got so sick of ironing and setting up the fabric I use for my photo backgrounds, I made myself this upholstered thingy. It only took a couple of afternoons to get all the shopping done and the thing put together, and I was able to have it ready to go. I also got a new camera and after I figure that thing out, I'll be ready to role with all the new stuff I got in MN. I've made a little technical sketch if you want to try it yourself.

Tina Oh My First Post

Hi all, So first off I figured I could reach more of you this way - I just recieved a load of vintage items from the in-laws. Some things I fully loved and kept but I have a few pieces that I thought all of you or some of you maybe looking for. Anyway, I will take pictures today and post them here later. I just wanted to give you a heads up...to be ready - some of the things are practical and some are just plain weird - perhaps due to their age... One other question: I am not a jeweler for sur… Continue

Hi all, I'm a new member of Vintage pulse and very happy to be here. My shop is Charmings Collectables and my main interest is vintage glass. Anything from EAPG, ABC, Elegant, Depression, right up through the 80's. I probably know more about Elegant and Depression glass than the other periods but I'm learning! Like many of you, I can’t resist buying all kinds of things that catch my eye, so I have a wide variety of items here and on Ruby Lane. Now to the surprise. I was packing an item to ship… Continue

Lauren "So, what made you decide to sell (whatever you sell)?"

If you've been in my shop you know that I tend to lean towards mens accessories and clothing. People always ask me why I sell what I do. I never really thought too much about it before. Once I got thinking I realized that it's easier for me to give up something I can't really use myself... since I am a woman, don't wear ties, and get the occassional hankering for a Cary Grant movie, mens accessories just sort of fit. Even though I loooove every piece I post in my shop, its not so hard to send i… Continue

crostini*VS Etsy search changes: impact on Vintage & Supply items

I'm taking this opportunity to put my voice in on the ETSY search changes that went into effect on Monday, May 5th. I am an artist - a handmade and vintage/supply seller on Etsy (with two separate shops) who was in favor of the search "improvements", in theory. ...In practice - the Vintage & Supply listings are simply not getting fair exposure with the current format of the change since Monday. ...In practice, Vintage & Supply listings come at a price to the seller equal to handmade l… Continue

Aunt Sissy What is Hardest About Your Book Keeping??

I use a program called "FileMaker Pro" to track my spending sales. The program let's you create what in technical lingo is called a "Relational Data Base" which in plain-talk means that it allows you to work with your items similar to a card catalog at the library - you can search, do calculations, and even have fields that have drop downs so your data entry is WAY faster and more accurate than say Excel. I'm still perfecting how mine works but look into it if you have a hard time keeping up wit… Continue

Aunt Sissy Lesson Learned - Pyrex Can Break!

Sooo because I was so excited to sell this super cute set of pyrex dishes I didn't pack them properly...needless to say one of the two broke en-route. The buyer was really great and convo-ed me before she left negative feedback and I comped her back for the full purchase. I don't really care that only one broke, the whole point of buying a set is to get the SET and I got good feed back from her. Still the saddest thing is that the dish broke...And here I thought they were indestructible. Continue

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong...but I finally looked at some other artists who are very successful at etsy and saw that they are mainly specializing in one type of item or style.
